Queer Magick Intervention

Im Jahr 2022 hielten Komponist Wojteck Blecharz und Choreograph*in Vala T. Foltyn im Rahmen des Festivals Musikinstallationen Nürnberg ein dreitägiges Ritual im Innenhof und Gebäude der Kongresshalle auf dem ehemaligen Reichsparteitagsgelände in Nürnberg ab: „Queer Magick Intervention“ setzte der gewalttätigen Nazi-Architektur und Geschichte des Geländes ein Ritual der Verwandlung entgegen und beschäftigte sich mit Archiven zu Widerstandskämpfer*innen aus Polen und queeren Opfern des Nationalsozialismus. In ihrem Workshop geben die beiden Künstler*innen konzeptionelle und praktische Einblicke in ihre Arbeitsweise.

In 2022, composer Wojteck Blecharz and choreographer Vala T. Foltyn held a three-day ritual in the inner courtyard and building of the Congress Hall on the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds in Nuremberg as part of the Musikinstallationen Nürnberg festival: ‘Queer Magick Intervention’ countered the violent nazi architecture and history of the site with a ritual of transformation and dealt with archives on resistance fighters from Poland and queer victims of the Thrid Reich. In their workshop, the two artists will provide conceptual and practical insights into their working methods.

The music of composer and soundartist Wojtek Blecharz often redefines the traditional concert format and proposes different relations between the listener/viewer and the sound. His music involves site specific projects, participatory audience, elements of music and instrumental theater as well as immersion and embodiment of sound. Blecharz had been curating the Instalakcje music festival at Warsaw between 2012-2019. Blecharz has directed three of his opera-installations: Transcryptum (2013, Grand Theater National Opera Warsaw); Park-Opera (2016, Theater Powszechny Warsaw) and Body-Opera, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (2016).

Vala T. Foltyn, performance artist, queer witch, art researcher, founder of Lamella the house of queer arts in Poland. She graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Artistic Research at Malmö Art Academy in June 2022. Foltyn was an artist in residency at Art Hub Copenhagen and published a book „Szwedzka 8” in 2024. She exhibited and performed at Tallinn Art Hall, Fondazione Giuliani in Rome, Zachęta Gallery, Galeria Miejska Arsenał, „Parliament of Bodies” by Paul Preciado at Bergen Assembly and Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. She currently lives in Copenhagen.
